Prepaid Viacard
Notice is hereby given that Viacards have been discontinued. Their technology based on a magnetic stripe has become outdated and is rapidly falling into disuse. The decision to discontinue this payment method stems from the recent widespread use of credit cards with a chip, and especially prepaid credit cards, alongside the progressive adoption of new contactless technologies which do not require users to insert the card in the collection systems, thus ensuring shorter dwell times at toll gates, increasing safety and improving traffic flows.
At all toll booths on the Italian motorway network, already purchased Viacards can be used until the credit is depleted, up until 31/12/2029. It will always be possible to request a refund of the remaining credit, with no minimum amount limit, until 31/12/2038, following the procedures outlined on the Autostrade website under the "Refunds" section, or on the Muovy app under the "Viacard Refund" section, as well as by submitting a written request via email to info@autostrade.it.
