Description of the project

The project involves widening the section of the A11 between the Florence Peretola urban interchange and the Pistoia junction to three lanes, with the aim of expanding capacity on the road network between Florence and the densely populated and heavily industrialised area around Prato and Pistoia.

The project has been divided into 2 lots.

Lot 1: Upgrade of the Peretola interchange and the widening to three lanes until km 9+850 (Prato East);

Lot 2: Widening to three lanes from km 9+850 to km 27+390 (Pistoia) and the new Pistoia East junction.

Community initiatives

To improve links between the motorway and the ordinary road network, work will also take place in the municipalities of Montecatini, Pistoia, Prato and Campi Bisenzio, including:

  • Roundabouts at the Montecatini junction;
  • The so-called “Asse dei Vivai” road linking the Pistoia East junction and the S.S. 719;
  • A doubling of the S.S. 719 close to Ponte Lama;

The following works will be carried to mitigate the related hydraulic risks:

  • Expansion tanks along the River Brana;
  • Expansion tanks along the River Marinella.
