Description of the project

Carried out by Autostrade per l’Italia and Group companies (construction by Amplia, engineering by Tecne and technology by Movyon), the project involves construction of a new lane in each direction between the Milan North toll station and the interchange with the A9 Lainate-Como-Chiasso. A total of approximately 4.4 km of additional lane for the Metropolitan City of Milan and the neighbouring industrial zones.

The project will increase capacity on one of the busiest sections of motorway in the country, used by 170,000 vehicles a day and with peaks in excess of 200,000. The A8 is one of the most important major roads in northern Italy, an integral part of the two international corridors taking traffic towards northern Europe. Thanks to investment of approximately €200 million, the infrastructure will cut journey times, saving 1 million hours a year.

Community initiatives

The most important community initiatives being carried out by the Autostrade per l’Italia Group include:

  • The new Lainate Tunnel, playing a key role in linking different parts of the metropolitan area, and a major part of the new road connecting the SP 101 and the SP 109 roads, including an underpass under the interchange connecting the A8 and A9 motorways.
  • Construction on Corso Europa of two relief roads and a new roundabout providing access to Via Nervino.
  • new overpass in Viale Manzoni, already in service, new roads linking with the municipality of Rho and new cycleways.
