Description of the project

The project regards the widening of 27 km of motorway between Ponte Rizzoli and the Ravenna link road from 3 to 4 lanes plus a hard shoulder, at a point where traffic levels have reached daily highs of over 90,000 vehicles (with peaks of approximately 20,000 trucks and coaches). The A14 Bologna – Bari – Taranto motorway corridor runs down Italy’s Adriatic backbone, in parallel with the A1 Milan – Naples corridor that runs down the Tyrrhenian side of the country.

The A14 passes through the Bologna motorway hub, which represents the interchange between the above two national corridors and is located at the heart of the regional motorway network, for which it is the main interchange.

Following the receipt of consent from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the detailed design on 3 March 2022, the required preparatory work began (pre-construction environmental monitoring, the purchase of areas, the removal of wartime ordinance, archaeological surveys, the resolution of interferences).

In addition, in October 2022, preliminary activities began and are currently in progress (so-called Lot 0).

Community initiatives

These initiatives, included in the detailed design, aim to improve conditions in the area through which the road runs and consist of construction of new Toscanella and Solarolo junctions, with the related roundabouts linking with provincial highways, the installation of noise barriers on a total section of 15 km, and green spaces to mitigate the environmental impact (wooded areas).
